Abba's "Dancing Queen" entered the charts in Norway on the 19th August 1976 where it spent 28 weeks including 12 weeks at number 1 - the group only had one other chart topper in Norway ("Waterloo") whilst they were together although 8 of their singles reached number 2...

On the 18th August 1981 Frida filmed the first of four variety TV shows titled "Lite Grand I Orat" - during each show Frida and Claes Af Geijerstam sang an opening number as well as presenting the other acts - the first of these shows was broadcast on the 18th September.

Abba Date - 16th August 1979

On the 16th August 1979 Abba's "Does Your Mother Know" entered the charts in Rhodesia where it reached number 9 staying in the charts for 10 weeks...

Abba Date - 16th August 1976

Today in 1976 Abba's "Dancing Queen" entered the Australian charts where it stayed for 25 weeks including 8 weeks at number 1. The group had seven of their singles in the end of year chart in the following positions -

  • Number 1 - "Fernando"
  • Number 3 - "Dancing Queen"
  • Number 7 - "Money, Money, Money"
  • Number 14 - "Rock Me"
  • Number 16 - "S.O.S"
  • Number 28 - "Mamma Mia"
  • Number 49 - "Ring Ring"

It may seem as if "S.O.S" and "Mamma Mia" are a little low down the 1976 chart however they were actually released the previous year - in the 1975 year end chart "Mamma Mia" was the 3rd biggest seller.

Abba's single "Dancing Queen" entered the charts in the Netherlands today in 1976 where it would stay for 15 weeks including 5 weeks at number 1 - this was the second of three chart toppers in a row for Abba with "Fernando" and "Money, Money, Money" also reaching number 1. After these three singles it would be 1979 before Abba would have another number 1 in the Netherlands with "Chiquitita".

French Vinyl

In August 1979 Abba's "Voulez-Vous" (with the b-side "Does Your Mother Know") was released in France as a 12" single in red, green and blue vinyl...

At this point I am about half way through the episode at the point where they have started to discuss Abba's "Arrival" album...

Belgium Chart

In August 1981 Abba released the 12" maxi-single of "Lay All Your Love On Me" in Belgium where it reached number 14 ; at this point the group had a run of seven number 1 singles in a row (from "Chiquitita" to "Super Trouper") and it was the first single not to reach the Top 10 in Belgium since "So Long" in 1975 which peaked at number 29.
